Huawei Has A Big Winner In Western Europe With The P20 Pro
- Apr 28, 2018 -

While Huawei isn't shipping its top-of-the-line P20 Pro to the U.S., the phone is red hot in Western Europe. The handsetthat sports a triple-camera setup on back (40MP + 20MP +8MP) is now the Chinese manufacturer's biggest seller of all time in the region. According to Huawei, in Western Europe the P20 Pro has rung up sales 316% higher than last year's P10 Plus. Not bad, considering that smartphone sales overall have been flattish.

Huawei notes that most of the demand in Western Europe for the entire P20 line, consisting of the P20, P20 Pro andP20 Lite, has been seen in  the U.K., Germany and France. As far as the U.S. is concerned, government officials told Americans to give Huawei devices a wide berth because of the company's rumored ties to the Chinese government. This torpedoed the company's efforts to have the Huawei Mate 10 Pro on the shelves at AT&T and Verizon, and even Best Buy decided to stop selling the brand. As far back as 2012, Huawei was accused of espionage in the states. The concern is that Huawei phones and networking equipment could be sending information on American consumers and corporations to China. Huawei has denied these allegations. Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal wrote that the U.S. Justice Department is investigating Huawei for violating U.S. sanctions against Iran.

Even though the Huawei P20 Pro won't be touching down on U.S. soil, a majority of those who responded to our poll (50.7%) said that they would buy the P20 Pro if given the opportunity. Only 16.1% said that privacy concerns would force them to skip over the device.
