What is 3G UMTS?
Third Generation (3G) Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) is one of two competing 3G technologies utilized in cellphones. The 3G UMTS standard can allow for faster data speeds than the previous 2G systems. Additionally, UMTS contains specifications for the entire 3G voice and data network. 3G UMTS is closely related to older technologies, such as Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM). Some UMTS handsets can use one or both of these slower protocols when a 3G network is unavailable.
The UMTS standard is in use throughout the world, though the actual UMTS name is most often used in Europe. In the US, 3G UMTS is usually marketed simply as 3G. Though 3G UMTS builds on many concepts utilized in EDGE and GSM, UMTS cannot be operated concurrently in the same frequencies as these standards. UMTS also requires entirely new hardware to be installed in a carrier's cell towers. So while EDGE may be operated concurrently with GSM, UMTS can represent a comparatively expensive upgrade. Some carriers may choose to use EDGE as a stopgap measure before building a full UMTS network.
3G UMTS networks are often billed as broadband. Though actual download and upload speeds may be slower than traditional broadband connections, they can often represent a substantial improvement over 2G data systems. EDGE may also offer increased speed over the older GSM system, but UMTS can increase potential speeds into low-end broadband territory. Dedicated 3G UMTS modems are usually available for computers, providing a broadband connection while on the go. Similarly, some carriers may allow users to tether their UMTS phones to a computer. This tethering process can also provide a broadband connection where a broadband connection might otherwise not be available.
The main competing 3G protocol is known as Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA2000). This technology is used by a number of carriers in the US, though it is not as widespread in most other countries. While UMTS is part of the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), CDMA2000 belongs to the competing Third Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2). A direct evolution of the Interim Standard 95 (IS-95) 2G protocol, CDMA2000 can coexist within the same frequencies as this older technology. This is similar to the relationship between the 3GPP GSM and EDGE technologies, though CDMA2000 is fully 3G. Due to this interoperability, the build costs for CDMA2000 networks may be less expensive when compared to UMTS networks. Unlike UMTS, CDMA2000 does not have a natural successor. Long Term Evolution (LTE), a 3GPP standard, is the sole successor to both competing 3G technologies.

What are the Different Types of Smartphone Software?
Smartphones have become a standard tool for many people. These phones run on special smartphone software designed for specific models. Some examples of this software include Android®, Windows CE®, Windows 7®, Palm® OS, Mac® OS and Blackberry® technology. Each operating system is designed for a specific phone type.
The Palm® OS was one of the first types of smartphone software available. It was created in 1996 for the new mobile computing market. The Palm® smartphone enabled users to write, keep track of tasks, and manage their calendars, which was previously unavailable on any phones.
After Palm® introduced personal data assistance (PDA) devices, many companies created competing devices of their own. Among these was the Blackberry® mobile device. Blackberry® smartphone software provided a mechanism to send and receive emails on a remote device. This transformed the smartphone technology and made the devices more usable for businesses and casual groups.
The Windows CE® smartphone software was the next generation of phone and it provided access to the mobile versions of Microsoft Office. This includes both Excel spreadsheet software and the popular Microsoft Word data processing software. Windows CE® was the first mobile software to provide advanced data processing capabilities on a portable cell phone devices.
Among the most sophisticated smartphone software packages are those that run the iPhone® and Google® Droid smartphones. Both of these devices provide advanced graphics and computer processing capabilities with the Internet. The iPhone® smartphone was created by the Apple Corporation. This phone runs a slimmed-down version of the Mac®OS operating system. These phones run on software that requires a special Mac® operating system and software application to make modification to the phone.
Google® Droid smartphones have similar features to the iPhone® but run on the open standard Java system. This phone is the direct competitor to the iPhone®. These phones provide similar graphics and user capabilities, with the Droid having more of a software development appeal because of the open access to free tools to create applications for the Internet.
The Windows 7® phone uses one of the latest smartphone software programs available today. This phone is based on a mobile version of the Windows® operating system with many modern features. The Windows® phone provides a streamlined version of the common Windows® interfaces.

What is a Mobile Smartphone?
A mobile smartphone is a cell phone with many extra capabilities to make work and life easier. Mobile smartphones were once only popular in the business world, but are now becoming much more common among average cell phone users. Many cell phones can now be classified in the fairly broad mobile smartphone category.
A mobile smartphone is a cell phone that provides basic uses such as the ability to place a call, send and receive text messages, make notes of important dates on a calendar and maintain an address book. Additionally, these smartphones are able to access the internet, receive and send e-mail, and edit documents. Some also have MP3 players, GPS navigators, and cameras built in. They offer the ability to send multimedia messages as well, which may include pictures, video or music.
A mobile smartphone generally runs a proprietary operating system that allows the addition of specific applications. There are also many downloadable applications for smartphones, such as games, news feeds, or stock market trackers, just to name a few. Smartphones may also offer a full QWERTY keyboard or a touchscreen to make typing easier. There are also extra-cost accessories available for smartphones, such as a wireless headset, car charger or case.
Mobile smartphones will be able to connect to your computer, allowing you to easily transfer and sync information and important documents. This is a great time-saver on smartphones. Being able to check the news, view social networks and track the stock market, among many other options, on your mobile smartphone is also convenient during a commute or a business trip.
Mobile smartphones are generally more expensive than a standard cell phone. Though the purchase price may be similar initially, especially with the signing of a two-year contract and the rebates that are frequently offered, monthly fees are considerably higher. This is because a data plan is required to access the internet and send and receive e-mails or text messages. If you do not wish to have these extra-cost features, a standard cell phone is a better choice.
Because mobile smartphones are becoming so popular, prices are becoming more reasonable. Shop around for the best deals and the features you need or want. Some are able to replace their household land lines with cell phones, so even though a mobile smartphone may be more expensive on a month-to-month basis, you may save money by canceling your land line service.

What is a Cell Phone Holster?
A cell phone holster is a device used to carry and protect cellular phones. Typically, it allows the user to attach the cell phone to his or her belt or at the top of the pants. The phone fits snugly inside the holster, which usually contains a flap that goes over the top and snaps in place. In this way, the user does not have to worry about the cell phone accidentally falling out of the holster.
Generic cell phone holsters can be purchased at many stores. These are designed to fit any cell phone, but they do not necessarily provide a snug fit, because cellular phones are available in a variety of sizes. Therefore, it is best for the user to purchase a holster that is designed specifically for his or her model of cellular phone.
A cell phone holster has many benefits. The primary benefit is the convenience it provides. By placing the cell phone inside the holster, the user can attach the cell phone to his or her side. In this way, it is always within arm's reach. In addition, the user does not need to fumble through a purse or briefcase to search for the cell phone.
Using a holster also reduces the chance of accidentally losing one's phone. It is easy to set a cell phone down and then forget where it was placed. Keeping the cell phone in the holster and getting into the habit of always placing it at one's side reduces the chance of misplacing the cell phone.
A cell phone holster also provides the phone with protection. The most popular designs are made with leather. This provides a barrier between the phone and hard objects that may crack or scratch it. In addition, the cell phone holster helps prevent dust from getting into the cell phone.
It is also possible to purchase a cell phone holster made from a hard plastic. This type is particularly beneficial for cell phones used in businesses, especially within industrial settings, at it protects the phone from being damaged when dropped. In addition, it can withstand the rough treatment that is typical in this type of setting.
